The Planning Permission saga...
As soon as it was confirmed that Unit 9 was the one to go for, an application for "Change of Use" went into West Wiltshire District Council. To cut a long story short, the permission was denied for several reasons, one of which stated that there was conflict with the WWDC run leisure centre and gym. Another reason given was the Business Plan stated that it was to offer "charity" or reduced rate classes and the planners did not want such a prestigious park to have such a facility.
So, during the next few weeks the management had to canvas every official of the Planning Committee, securing the support of the majority of the members. This was because the case would be taken to a full planning meeting in order to ensure the Planners were given every opportunity to see the venture was profit-motivated and no threat to existing services.
At a full planning meeting, it was decided to give permission for the martial arts and fitness activities centre, with the proviso that it did not include gym equipment.
Building work could now commence, but approximately 2 months later than anticipated.
