The idea of an integrated martial and holistic arts centre that would be accessible for all, came from Andy Wright's 20 year dream. He started training in karate during 1985, and opened his first club during April 1990. At one point during 1993/94 he ran five clubs and was teaching approximately 250 students, whilst holding down a day job.

frequency of price increases and lack of service meant that an alternative solution was needed.

The dream was to be able to offer 7 day a week classes in an environment that encouraged open, non-political training and at a reasonable price, another problem of the club environment - money and fees.
